Time Management

Time is more valuable than money.

WHERE DO I START?
1. Start with what bugs you the most and make a Plan.
(see example below)
2. Select your goal.
3. Break it down into Baby Steps.
4. Give it a timeline.
5. WRITE DOWN exactly what you want to do, and designate a deadline for accomplishing that goal. The deadline should be as specific as possible.

BABY STEPS
If you can't face an entire room, break the job down into manageable tasks--the sock drawer, one paper pile, the medicine chest, the towels in the linen closet, the vanity. Smaller pieces are easier to accomplish. That way you won't put off organizing because it's too big a task.

TIME
1. Set a completion deadlines for your project/room
2. Set deadlines for your baby steps
Be realistic and specific. For example, if you cannot get to your closet you cannot organize it. Also, make sure that you allot more time than you think you need. If you think it will take you 2 hours, at the very least double it. If you finish earlier, than planned it can be used as time for yourself.

SIDETRACKS
Knowing what you are focusing on, helps keep you on track. If you find something, that may side track you, schedule time for it later. By mapping out a plan, you see the big picture and stick to it.

SPEED BUMPS
Don't expect a smooth journey, there are bound to be speed bumps.(ie.Kids get sick, car breaks down) Don't get discouraged. If it looks like you're not going to accomplish your goal by your deadline, just set a new deadline.

Please excuse the format below...I'm experiencing technical difficulites. :-)

MAKING A PLAN-
1. Select main goal -Organizing the Closet is week 3 of the challenge. Set Completion Deadline.

2. Look at what needs to be done. Deadline 1 realistically assess what needs to be done.

A. First you need room to move.
1. Purge the stuff in front of the closet. Set Deadline 2
a. Can this be thrown away?
b. Does this belong in this room? Stay where you are!!!
If not, put it in a pile to be moved when you finish today's task
c. Don't get sidetracked, but it on a list and schedule it for another time

B. Empty your closet Set Deadline 3
1. clean it
2. Place items in your closet, see if what you envision works...
if not, rethink it, post to the board or got to chat for ideas.
3. Access your needs, what tools do I need- ie. 20 hangers, 2 shoe containers, 1 sweater box, etc.
4. Go shopping / get tools Set Deadline 4
5. Put tools into use Set Deadline 5

Deadline 5 should be the same as, or before Completion Deadline.

C. Celebrate your achivement - take the time to reward yourself and admire your work.

Say you want your closet done in 2 weeks.
May 1 - is deadline 1- Morning -1/2 hr. - access
May 6 - is deadline 2 - All Day - purge and movestuff to where it belongs(or general vicinity)
May 7 - is deadline 3 - All Day - empty,post/chat, need assesment
May 9 - is Deadline 4 - Morning - 1hr. - Shopping (but kids get sick, reschedule for day 11)
May 11 - is new Deadline 4 - Afternoon- 1hr. - Shopping- get what needed to finish the job
May 12 - is Deadline 5-Afternoon- 2 hrs. - put the new tools to use
May 14 - is Completion Deadline -Lunch with a friend CELEBRATE

Remember this is your schedule. If a speed bump comes into your life, you can adjust your deadlines.
