The GO Journal Challenge
I felt like the only one that had difficulty with the journal part. But the boards have told me that I am not. What's worked
for me are using the GO boards and the GO chats. There have been wonderful ideas for journaling in the links(given to me by
another challenger, Thanks Deb.) I have gathered journal questions from Regina Leeds, author of "The Zen of Organizing:
Creating Order and Peace in Your Home, Career and Life" ,and others which you will find below.
= These sites were recommemded to me, to help get me started
on the journaling.
Suite
101 has a lot of articles on journaling and lots of other stuff (besides journaling) The Writing
Journey is a wonderful site with lots of info on how the start and "organize" a journal. Also it talks about different
types of journals and writing styles. Lots of Ideas! Journaling
for Writers @ iVillage has greats boards. You have to look through the posts to finds the weekly assignments (there noted)
but you can also see what others are writing. Very thought provoking.
Journals and Time Management Questions
Problems Journaling-
Can you answer this question in your journal: "I am resistant to the process of journaling because..."
Procrastination/Movitation
Are you depressed? Do you really want to accomplish what is before you? Are you physically or emotionally exhausted
at present? In the harsh light of reality, could we say you are just lazy? Are you in rebellion to some "authority"
figure like a domineering parent or spouse? Do you secretly enjoy the drama that erupts due to your procrastination?
Does procrastination enable you to control your secret fears of success or failure?
* In addition to the questions, Regina had one great suggestion,"JUST DO IT"
Trouble Purging-
Here are some possible questions from Regina to help you gain understanding: What do I gain by having these items in
my home? How do I really feel about them? What would fill this space if I freed it? Is there something I am afraid
of? Are these things giving me a buffer zone of safety?
Backsliding
These questions came from iVillager mjfrombuffalo. The entire post can be found on archived GO board 34, post 38.2. Were
you expecting to get too much done too soon? Was your plan realistic? Did you have a crisis (illness, etc.) which
threw you off track? What would you say to your best friend right now if she were in the exact same situation you're
in right now, with the same reasons and circumstances?
Been doing the challenge for a while...
Regina posed these questions: What has become second nature because of the challenge that was difficult before? What
do I hope to accomplish before the challenge rolls out in September? What is still overwhelming to me...and why? What
have you accomplised because of the challenge? "How am I different since I took the challenge?" Don't
write about the closet your organized or the garage...find the subtle ways you have changed how you relate to life. for example,"I
have learned to make time for every task" or "I perform my work no matter what my emotional state is."
